PMO Specialist / Project Manager

Are you motivated by developing effective project management practices, engaging colleagues across an organisation and taking an active role in delivering complex, strategically important projects?

On behalf of NORDUnet, we are seeking an experienced PMO Specialist / Project Manager to strengthen project and portfolio management across the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will develop and implement practical governance, processes and tools that improve project execution, portfolio oversight and management decision-making.

The role combines developing NORDUnet’s PMO capabilities with hands-on responsibility for selected projects. You will work extensively across departments to establish common ways of working, while supporting reliable financial follow-up and reporting, particularly for EU-funded and other externally funded projects.

About NORDUnet

NORDUnet is the strategic digital infrastructure collaboration of the Nordic region, jointly owned and steered by the five Nordic National Research and Education Networks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. For more than four decades, NORDUnet has delivered highly reliable connectivity, secure digital services and advanced network infrastructure to the Nordic research and education community. As the Nordic gateway to the global Research & Education ecosystem, NORDUnet collaborates with GÉANT, Internet2, global NRENs, e-infrastructures and technology partners.

A key role in strengthening project delivery across NORDUnet

Working closely with the COO, executive management, Finance, project owners and project managers, you will help establish a reliable portfolio overview and common project practices that strengthen planning, prioritisation and delivery across NORDUnet.

A central part of the role is to engage stakeholders across departments and build commitment to new ways of working. You will ensure that project management frameworks and tools are not only developed, but effectively implemented and used in practice.

Key responsibilities

As PMO Specialist / Project Manager, you will:

· Develop and implement a common project and portfolio management framework, defining governance, roles, decision points and escalation procedures

· Establish practical standards, processes and tools for project planning, budgeting, risk management, change control and reporting

· Build and maintain a consolidated portfolio overview, providing management with reliable information on priorities, progress, investments, resources, risks and dependencies

· Strengthen management reporting and decision support, ensuring timely identification of deviations, emerging risks and required decisions

· Ensure accurate financial follow-up, time registration and documentation for EU-funded and other externally funded projects, working closely with Finance and project teams

· Drive the adoption of Jira, Kanban and relevant agile methodologies, adapting approaches to individual project needs

· Guide and support project managers and project owners in applying common standards and tools

· Lead selected projects directly, managing scope, planning, resources, stakeholders, progress and delivery

· Continuously improving project management practices based on experience, feedback and organisational needs

Your profile

We are looking for a PMO Specialist with solid experience in developing and implementing practical project frameworks, processes and tools, combined with a proven track record of managing projects in complex, stakeholder-driven environments.

· A relevant educational background in business, economics, engineering, IT or a related field; substantial professional experience may be equally valuable

· At least 5 years of relevant experience in PMO, project or programme management, governance or portfolio management, including direct project management responsibility

· Documented experience developing and implementing project management frameworks, processes and tools across multiple projects or teams

· Solid experience with project planning, financial management, resource allocation, risk management and management reporting, including decision material for senior stakeholders

· Practical experience with agile methodologies and tools, particularly Jira; certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, Scrum Master or similar are an advantage

· Experience from complex, project-driven environments, preferably within IT consulting, management consulting, telecommunications, technology infrastructure or Research & Education

· Experience with EU-funded or other externally funded projects, including financial follow-up, time registration, documentation and reporting, is a clear advantage

· Professional proficiency in both Danish and English, written and spoken

Personal qualities

You are structured, analytical and pragmatic, with the ability to translate complex project information into clear priorities, practical processes and decision material. You combine a strong focus on execution with an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by project managers and project owners.

You are proactive, outgoing and confident in engaging with colleagues across functions and organisational levels. You communicate clearly, build trust and enjoy involving others in developing new ways of working. You have the influencing skills to challenge existing practices constructively, overcome resistance and create commitment without formal authority. You are motivated by helping others succeed and making project governance valuable in everyday work.

Why join NORDUnet?

This is an opportunity to shape NORDUnet’s PMO capability and contribute directly to strategically important projects. You will work with skilled colleagues in a mission-driven organisation supporting research, education and international digital infrastructure.

Location

The role is based at NORDUnet’s office in Copenhagen/Kastrup. Candidates are preferably based in Greater Copenhagen, and frequent presence at the office is expected.
