Data Lead – Product Intelligence
e-conomic is the accounting platform 300,000+ Danish small businesses and the accounting offices that serve them run on. We stand on 25 years of financial data from those businesses, one of the deepest datasets on Danish small businesses that exists, and a compliance position competitors can't copy.
That is what we are building our agentic future on top of: AI that posts transactions, closes the books and catches anomalies, and every accountant-verified result makes the next one better. The flywheel only turns on data we can trust: to know what the AI actually did for an accountant, to see one true picture of our customers that every department recognises, and to let every product team answer its own questions without waiting in a queue.
We are hiring a Data Lead to own the data foundation behind those aspirations: the analytical layer that tells us what the AI delivered, what our customers do, and whether we can trust the answer – and the insight that shapes our direction. Data as a strategic function, not a reporting one.
THE TEAM
You join Product Intelligence, the data and insight team of our product organisation: three business analysts, an analytics engineer and you, reporting to the Manager of Product Intelligence. You work directly with the CPO and product leadership, with our central Data & AI Platform team, and with analysts in every department.
Stack: BigQuery, dbt / Dataform for transformation, Snowplow for event tracking, Kubit and Tableau for product analytics and BI, SQL and Python and ecoai, our internal agent layer that lets the organisation query data in natural language.
The Setup: This is a new role. Governing structures, such as a Data Board, are being established rather than inherited, and the standards you will hold our data to don't exist yet. You build legitimacy through the data board and through the quality of your calls, not through a reporting line and you will have senior management's backing while you do it. If you need a title to lead, this will frustrate you. If you've done it before without one, it is the interesting part.
YOUR IMPACT
Data at e-conomic is deliberately decentralised. Product, finance, sales, marketing and support each have their own analysts, and a central data platform team runs the warehouse and pipelines. What we are looking for is one senior data person who sets the direction for Product Intelligence – the data team in products – while driving the questions that cut across all of the teams.
• The direction for product data: What we measure, what "correct" and "live" mean, and which data from new products reaches the warehouse. The platform team builds and runs the pipelines; you define what good looks like together with the product intelligence team.
• Prioritisation by business impact: Every data request, including from leadership, is weighed on value and technical cost before it gets capacity. You hold that line, with the mandate to say no or re-scope. You answer for one published way to request and prioritise data work in the product organisation, and for ad hoc requests becoming the exception.
• Shared standards for all our analysts: Definitions, frameworks, ways of working and the tooling choices that bind more than one team, decided in a data board you run together with the head of our data platform (Data & AI Platform), and carried through a community of practice across the company. You answer for the product and analytics side of the data board, the decisions getting made and holding across departments - with Data & AI Platform answering for the platform and architecture side; and for analysts working to shared standards.
• One trusted truth about our product and customers: Lead the cross-department work to get there - tooling, customer-level metrics, feature adoption, time in product - and be in the room when it is used for decisions, not asked for a dashboard afterwards. You answer for definitions agreed, owners named, and the numbers being used and trusted in management reporting.
• A self-service, AI-enabled way of working: Drive the ambition that every product manager, designer and engineer answers their own data questions through our tooling and trusts the answer, and be the technical review path that makes that safe to scale.
• Depth when it matters: Judge what an ask really requires, raise the modelling, versioning and data-quality questions before anyone points at them, and sit with an analyst on how a specific indicator is built when the answer depends on it.
YOUR PROFILE
Someone who can lead from both ends of the table: carry the business priorities in the room with senior stakeholders, and carry the technical discussion with engineers and analysts – and hold the two together when they pull in different directions.
• A deep analytics-engineering foundation: SQL, data modelling, warehousing, ELT, semantic/metrics layers; comfortable in dbt-style tooling.
• A track record of holding a mandate across teams: Standards, governance or data strategy that other teams actually adopted, not only delivered inside your own.
• Credibility with senior stakeholders: You hold business priorities first, can say no to a director with a better reason than "capacity", and communicate clearly at executive level.
• Direction and hands-on, in the same week: Setting direction in the morning, reviewing a transformation model in the afternoon and accountable for it actually happening.
• AI-native practice: You use AI tools in your own work and have a view on where self-service and agents replace the human bridge in a data team, and where they don't yet.
• Language: Fluent professional English.
Nice-to-have: Product analytics in B2B SaaS · event tracking and BI tooling · fintech or accounting domain · experience in a decentralised data organisation · working knowledge of Python
If you are deeply technical and still growing into senior stakeholder work, apply anyway – the team around you is strong on the business side, and we would rather develop that than the reverse.
